David Yi was working as a writer at Mashable, covering the neck of fashion and beauty, when he
started to feel restless.

The 29-year old was growing dismayed by the lack of discussion in the media about men’s beauty. As his
months as a reporter went on, he soon found out that his pieces on male grooming seemed to
promote the most buzz; his stories on topics including ramp walks hairstyles at New York Fashion Week: Men’s, and a man who transformed his face using makeup amassed thousands of shares
and comments. Yi, who has always been passionate about such topics, was keen to encourage a dialogue on his own terms — thus his men’s beauty blog was born.
Yi is part of a blooming movement of men’s beauty influencers who, along with brands hunting totap into an upcoming market of male consumers, are aiming to normalise men testing in beauty
practices often relegated to women. Today, discussions about grooming and skincare that were
formerly carried on in anonymous chat rooms — or never talked about at all — are not just readily
accessible, but they’re also embraced on blogs, YouTube channels and even major marketing
campaigns.
The Snapchat Boy Beauty story is bringing men wearing makeup to the predominant.
With male beauty bloggers like Manny Gutierrez and James Charles making history capturing
beauty contracts, an official Snapchat Boy Beauty story was unavoidable. Men wearing makeup
are having a major jiffy. Guys all around the world have begun to nuzzle their inner beauty, and
this week, the Snapchat story is giving them a huge platform to show off their skills. The app lets
men all over the world to submit videos of their go to beauty tips, and the best one
can be found under the stories sections.

The Boy Beauty story not only stars Manny MUA and Charles, some other big named beauty
bloggers like Patrik Star, Bretman Rock, and Franike Grande make appearances, too.
There’s also a handful of lesser known, ridiculously talented diva dudes too. Throughout the short videos, the guys show off their best beauty tips and tricks, including how to execute the perfect
red lips which is a very importantskill, selfie lighting, and the ins and outs of highlighter
application. Sure, us ladies may be aware ofthe them already, the these guys prove makeup can
and should be accessible to everyone.
Though the Boy Beauty trend is still in its infancy, Snapchat is doing an awesome job of bringing beauty equality to the mainstream and we, for one, couldn’t be more excited. Everyone deserves
to look and feel their best – guys included. Whether that means a smooth shave, top knot or
no-meakup, gender doesn’t have to hinder anyone’s love of beauty.
