I discovered that I was valued for my appearance on online dating sites, and this was a huge revelation for a shy teenager who rarely interacted in person. All the adoration that I received on these online dating site made me feel like an outgoing, assertive person instead of an introvert who avoided society in general. I was accepted by guys who I thought to be beyond my reach.
This helped me to gain the required confidence in myself which earlier was non-existent. As per a lendedu study conducted with a study group of 3800 people aged between 18-22 years, it was found that 44% used online dating sites as a confidence building tool as opposed to find sex/love. 22% used it to find fun and only 4% used it to find relationships.

OK cupid, was my first dating app, but I used tinder in my early twenties. Although, it was fun to read the flirty messages, be warned....online dating like everything, else has its flip side too. While you get a huge boost in your self-worth, at the same time you start to doubt yourself i.e. whether you were accepted for yourself or was it your work-profile in isolation. Eventually, I gave up on the online dating addiction, and managed to find my soulmate on my own without the aid of any dating sites. But I have to accept the fact that tinder gave me the requisite confidence boost which I lacked before my online addictions.
